This past weekend, Dennis and I joined up with friends at Black Ankle Vineyards in Mt. Airy, Maryland. We've stopped by here a number of times over the years since it has the most interesting and inviting tasting room. It was made using only material sourced locally, most of it from the vineyard grounds itself. Their wines are pretty good, too. In fact, they've won a number of awards and are in the process of expanding their vines substantially to keep up with demand.
This trip was the first time we went on their vineyard tour, held Saturdays at 1:00pm. It was enteresting to see how they were planning to expand their wine barrel cellar while keeping their biodynamic farming practices as they continue to bring the new vines into mature wine grapes. Their hope is to be able to be 100% organic in the near future.

We always look forward to the joys of the tasting room. The wines, the locally sourced cheeses, such as the Monacacy Ash from Cherry Glen, and our friends, who are choosing to be vegan for Lent, enjoyed olives and a fresh baked bagette.
